P3 Charity Shortlisted for National Homeless Link Excellence Awards

tear drop shape

We’re proud to announce that P3 Charity has been shortlisted for the Homeless Link Excellence Awards, recognised in the Successful Partnerships category for our collaboration with Midland Mencap.

The award celebrates organisations that go beyond traditional boundaries to create meaningful partnerships to help improve services and outcomes for people experiencing homelessness. P3’s shortlisting highlights a powerful example of collaboration rooted in shared values, lived experience and a commitment to inclusion.

Amy Winter, Director of Support and Community Services for P3 Charity welcomes the recognition: “This shortlisting recognises the strength of our partnership with Midland Mencap and the expertise of people with lived experience who have led this work. Together, we’ve created something genuinely meaningful that’s changing practice, strengthening outcomes and preventing homelessness for the LD&A [Learning Disabilities and Autism] community. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has made this possible.”

Dave Rogers, CEO for Midland Mencap, added: “We are proud to celebrate a successful partnership with P3 charity, delivering meaningful impact, shared values and measurable outcomes that strengthen communities and demonstrate our commitment to lasting social change.”

Responding to a critical gap

The partnership was formed in response to a significant gap in support across Coventry and Warwickshire, following the closure of a specialist provider for people with learning disabilities and autism (LD&A). This left many people at increased risk of homelessness without access to tailored support.

Rather than adapting generic services that were not designed to meet these complex needs, P3 worked with Midland Mencap to co-produce a bespoke learning disability and autism awareness training programme. The aim was simple but ambitious: to ensure frontline staff had the knowledge, confidence and practical tools to better support people with LD&A.

Transforming Practice

What sets this partnership apart is its commitment to lived experience. With training delivered exclusively by people with learning disabilities and/or autism, each session brings real-life insight into the challenges people face when navigating housing systems and services.

Sessions focus on practical scenarios including communication barriers, tenancy breakdown, safeguarding and engagement. By combining Midland Mencap’s specialist expertise with P3’s frontline experience in homelessness prevention, the programme has created a shared understanding across sectors that have traditionally operated in isolation.

As a result, the impact has been huge. Colleagues have reported an increased confidence in responding to the needs of people with LD&A, adapting communication styles and making reasonable adjustments that prevent crises before they escalate.

Feedback from staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with one colleague describing it as “the best and most useful training I’ve had… in any job”. Others highlighted how hearing directly from people with lived experience made the training more engaging, practical and memorable.

Through this partnership, P3 and Midland Mencap have been able to prevent homelessness to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Being shortlisted for this national award is recognition of what can be achieved when organisations work together with purpose.

At its heart, this partnership is about ensuring people with learning disabilities and autism are understood, supported and given the opportunity to sustain a place they can call home.

We would like to thank Homeless Link for this national recognition and Midland Mencap for their expertise and collaboration with us on this worthwhile project.

We change lives, every day. Your support helps us to ensure that we can.
