Giving Back and Building Futures

The Impact of Corporate Volunteering at P3 Charity

At P3 Charity, we’re proud to have strong corporate partnerships, built over years of generosity, dedication and real community impact. Today, we’re celebrating three businesses that have transformed the lives of the people we support by providing a mix of practical help, hands-on volunteering and financial support.

Charities across the UK are facing the tough reality of rising demand for their support yet shrinking funding. Often, it’s only through donations and corporate support that we can bridge the gap and create life-changing opportunities for local people in communities all across the UK.

Businesses have valuable resources and expertise that can support charities in ways far beyond traditional donations. One of the greatest strengths of the corporate sector is not just its funding power, but the wealth of knowledge it can share. While financial contributions are always appreciated, corporate volunteering is a powerful way for companies to give back more directly, offering hands-on support that strengthens teams and creates lasting social impact in local communities.

Good for business, great for communities

At P3 Charity, we witness the positive impact of corporate volunteering every day — people opening up in newly refurbished spaces, seizing opportunities that wouldn’t exist without financial support and choosing hope instead of saying no. Corporate generosity makes an enormous difference to our work, enabling us to go beyond basic provision and deliver meaningful support that truly transforms lives.

When businesses empower their teams to share their time, skills and expertise, incredible things happen for everyone involved. Alongside making a tangible difference in local communities, companies can facilitate measurable social value, driving real impact for their corporate social responsibility (CSR) profile and making tremendous headway against their environmental, social and governance targets (ESG) as a company.

But beyond hitting targets or delivering to a corporate strategy, partnerships with organisations such as P3 allow businesses to connect with real people, giving incredible insight into what matters most to people in local communities across the UK.

Why corporate volunteering is good for business:

  • Boosts morale and motivation
When employees step away from their usual routine to help a local cause, they come back inspired, refreshed and proud to work for an organisation that cares about people as much as the bottom line.
  • Builds stronger teams and new skills
Volunteering days often bring people together in new ways, encouraging teamwork, leadership and problem-solving, all while making a real difference and giving your team a new perspective.
  • Strengthens your reputation
More than ever, customers and clients want to see businesses giving back. Supporting local charities shows that your company cares about more than just your bottom line.
  • Helps attract and keep great people
Today’s workforce expects more than just a payslip: They want a culture that cares about people and planet. Offering time for volunteering opportunities shows potential employees that you’re committed to purpose and people, not just profit.

Why corporate volunteering is great for communities:

  • Lasting community impact
Giving time, energy and skills help organisations like P3 do more at a time when it’s needed most. Our corporate partnership projects are designed to create lasting change, ensuring your impact goes well beyond a day of volunteering.
  • Increases capacity
Many charities that operate on a local level, such as P3, run on tight budgets and small teams. Volunteers give us an extra pair of hands to run more projects, reach more people and deliver services that simply wouldn’t be possible otherwise.
  • Raises awareness of local issues
When employees volunteer, they often become champions for our cause, spreading the word, fundraising or encouraging others to get involved, too.
  • Encourages wider social change
When companies embed volunteering into their culture, they help normalise social responsibility, which inspires other businesses to do the same, creating a ripple effect of positive change.

Our corporate partners in action

We’re lucky to have long-standing partnerships with companies such as Kier, Mace, eBay and National Grid, and their generosity has made a tremendous difference to our local places and spaces. From Christmas donations and long-term financial support to renovation projects and redecorations, their kindness has helped us enrich the lives of the people we work alongside, providing safe and comfortable spaces for them to live and thrive.

House to home: Kier Group

Our latest project with Kier brought a real and lasting impact to the people we support in Coventry, as our supported housing accommodation was turned into a brighter and more welcoming home for women experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

A team of 11 dedicated volunteers from Kier joined P3 for a hands-on corporate volunteering day that gave the space a much-needed refresh. From sanding and painting to adding homely touches – including a feature wall chosen by the residents themselves – their work will make a tremendous, long-lasting difference to the wellbeing and lives of the women living there.

Working alongside P3’s small maintenance team who are responsible for nearly 1,000 sites across the UK the team from Kier completed improvements in just one day: work that would have taken P3’s maintenance team months to complete, due to the sheer number of properties they need to maintain.

Andrew Bannister, Deputy Maintenance Manager for P3 Charity, said: “The presence of the Kier volunteers has made a huge impact for not just the people we support at P3, but our team. What would have taken three months has only taken a day!”

Philip Miles, Kier Group’s Pre-Construction Director, added: “The group of us from Kier have had a great day. We usually work across the country, so it’s been great for our team to get together and do something that’s non-work related while doing something that’s hugely valuable for the community. It’s a great mix for us of both social value and work benefit.”

Building brighter futures: Mace Group

In Hillingdon, our ongoing partnership with the Mace Group brought life-changing improvements to our home for young people, many of whom are asylum seekers or have English as a second language. P3 was joined by an incredible team of 14 Mace volunteers who helped transform the communal areas and garden by painting offices, tidying green spaces and creating welcoming outdoor areas where young people can relax, connect and have support sessions with their P3 support workers.

Many of these young residents are new to the UK and adjusting to life in a new country, so this newly revived bright, modern space is more than just a building: it’s a safe, supportive home that helps them feel settled and ready to build a brighter future as part of their local community.

Mace’s commitment doesn’t stop at one day’s work. Since 2021, they’ve supported P3’s Hillingdon Young People’s services with welcome packs, festive gifts, campaigns and fundraising, showing just how far charity partnerships can go when businesses go beyond hitting ESG targets and instead make community support and connection part of their culture.

Laura Lawson, Regional Young People and Services Manager for P3 Charity, said: “The Mace volunteer day was a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose to support and uplift young people in the community of Hillingdon. Volunteers worked side by side with four of our young people, who enthusiastically got involved and brought incredible energy to the day. Their participation was a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion and empowerment.”

Seeds of Hope: National Grid

With support from National Grid Electricity Distribution, we were able to give young families in supported living space in Warwickshire so much more than just a renovation. Thanks to a passionate team of 12 National Grid volunteers and a generous donation of £2,000, our vision of a sensory garden came to life.

The new outdoor space features sensory flower beds full of colour, scent and texture; a sensory wall with mirrors, windchimes and water features; and even a vegetable patch for future cookery sessions. This beautiful garden will bring joy to our young residents and provide a unique outdoor learning space for parents and their children to grow and connect.

Dawn Compton, Service Manager for P3 Warwickshire Youth Pathway, said: “What a great couple of days, working with a lovely bunch of people from National Grid. The results are amazing. Their work will mean so much to our families this summer, growing vegetables and flowers, using our new sensory boards and our brand-new picnic table!”

Dean Kendall, Contact Centre Team Leader for National Grid Electricity Distribution, echoed: “As a group, we were looking for something that could bring us together, create some memories and work together as a team. When we found out about the volunteer programme and the chance to work with P3 Charity, it ticked all the boxes. What makes it even better is that people will benefit every day and for years to come from just a couple of days work that were thoroughly enjoyable.”
