Role Title: Volunteer Gardener

Location: Halton, Runcorn, Cheshire

Time Commitment: Flexible, but minimum one hour per week

 

Role Overview:

We’re looking for a passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer to join us as a Volunteer Gardener at our service in Cheshire.

As a Volunteer Gardener, you will help transform and maintain a welcoming and vibrant outdoor environment that serves as a temporary accommodation service supporting families facing homelessness. Your contribution will provide a peaceful green space that encourages wellbeing, learning and a sense of pride in the local environment. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for gardening who wish to make a meaningful impact in their community.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and care for the centre’s green areas, including flower beds, vegetable patches, hanging baskets and walkways.
  • Support the development of a calm, attractive and usable outdoor space for residents and families.
  • Work with staff to explore opportunities for involving residents in gardening activities.
  • Promote environmental awareness and encourage shared responsibility for the space.
  • Report maintenance issues to the team and work in line with P3’s safety policies.
  • Attend relevant training and check-ins to support your volunteer journey.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion for gardening and the benefits of outdoor spaces.
  • Friendly, proactive and community-minded attitude.
  • Good communication and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to safety and detail.
  • Commitment to creating inclusive and welcoming environments for all.
  • Some experience in gardening or groundskeeping is desirable, but not essential.
  • Willingness to complete necessary training and a DBS check (if required).
  • Ability to volunteer regularly and maintain clear communication with the team.
