Role Overview:

We’re looking for a passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer to join our Street Outreach Team in Cambridgeshire as a Street Buddy Volunteer.

As a Street Buddy Volunteer, you’ll work alongside Outreach Workers to support individuals who are homeless or rough sleeping. You’ll help provide practical and emotional support, assisting individuals with accessing accommodation, health services, and drug or alcohol treatment. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference within your local community while gaining valuable experience in support work.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help identify individuals who are sleeping rough and support them to access accommodation and essential services.
  • Support individuals to access drug, alcohol and health treatment services.
  • Assist with re-establishing relationships with friends and family or supporting people to return home where appropriate
  • Complete visits and help maintain ongoing support for individuals.
  • Work alongside the Outreach Team to provide compassionate, person-centred support.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with the people you support.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and uphold safeguarding practices at all times.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • A genuine desire to help others and empathy towards people experiencing homelessness.
  • Commitment, patience and reliability.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Friendly, approachable and non-judgemental attitude.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Physical ability to work on the streets, including regular walking.
  • Interest in health and social care, homelessness support or the voluntary sector.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to supporting individuals with varying needs.
  • Commitment to upholding P3’s values and safeguarding practices.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over. A DBS check will be required for the role. A driving licence would be beneficial but is not essential.
No formal experience is required, although previous outreach, community work or support experience would be welcomed.
