A team of eight volunteers from BP has transformed the communal garden at P3 Charity’s Norman Russell House in Milton Keynes, creating a brighter and more welcoming space for residents to enjoy.
The volunteers worked alongside P3 colleagues to paint, clear and refresh the outdoor area. BP also donated items to support the project, including a new barbecue that residents can use together.
Norman Russell House provides supported accommodation for people experiencing homelessness. Alongside a safe place to stay, P3 offers personalised support that helps people build the skills and confidence they need to move towards longer-term housing.
A home is more than a roof and four walls. Shared spaces can provide opportunities to relax, connect with others and feel part of a community. That made improving the garden an important part of creating a welcoming environment at Norman Russell House.
The garden’s transformation was quickly noticed by the people living and working at the service.
One resident said: “It really is lovely out here. Fair play to everyone. I can’t believe how different it looks and, when everything starts growing, it will look even better.”
A P3 colleague added: “It was truly inspiring how we all came together to transform our outside communal area. This has lifted our spirits and created a nicer environment for all to use.”
The project is a great example of how corporate volunteering can make a tangible difference to the people we support, helping to improve spaces that support people’s mental wellbeing.
At P3, we understand that accommodation is more than just a roof over someone’s head – it’s a home. Creating welcoming spaces where people can feel comfortable, safe and valued is an important part of the support we provide.
Coral Liburd, BP’s Food Development Specialist, said: “The entire team had a really great day… I’m so glad that we were able to support P3. We hope that the sun will shine throughout September so that the staff and residents can enjoy a BBQ.”
Corporate volunteering days give businesses a practical way to support local communities while bringing colleagues together around a shared purpose. For P3, they can provide additional time, skills and resources to complete improvements that directly benefit the people we work alongside.
P3 Charity welcomes partnerships with businesses looking to make a meaningful social impact through volunteering or charitable support. Whether fulfilling ESG or CSR goals or simply giving back locally, corporate volunteering can leave a lasting legacy for the people and communities we support.
If your organisation is looking for a way to make a difference, P3 Charity welcomes businesses who want to support our work through volunteering, donations or gifts in kind.
