Paul's Skydive Raises £728 for Young Families in Nottinghamshire

tear drop shape

When it came to supporting young families in Nottinghamshire, Paul Legge took his commitment to new heights, quite literally. Swapping spreadsheets for a parachute, Paul, Finance Analyst at P3 Charity, took on a skydive to raise funds for P3’s Mansfield and Ashfield Young Parents Service.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of supporters, he raised an amazing £728 – beating Paul’s initial £500 fundraising target – to help young parents and their children get the best possible start in life.

Taking on the challenge was a personal milestone for Paul, who wanted to do something meaningful while supporting a service close to his heart. Before the jump, Paul said: “As I approached 40, I wanted to do something meaningful and gain a new perspective. Taking on this challenge felt like a fitting way to do that, while also raising funds for a truly deserving service.”

Since the challenge, Paul wants to thank his supporters: “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported me. Every donation has meant so much, I’m really proud that the money raised will go towards such a great cause.

“It was a challenge but knowing it would make a difference allowed me to take that final, all important step.

“We’ve raised an incredible amount, I couldn’t have done that without everyone who backed me and I’m incredibly grateful to have been able to turn this life experience into something positive, that will make a difference in the lives of others.

“I’d also like to thank the instructors at Skydive Langar, they were all fantastic! A special thank you to Joe, our trainer, and Pete and Marouan who jumped with me!”

Read on to discover how Paul’s challenge will make an impact on P3’s Young Parents Service, who are helping young families to thrive across Mansfield and Ashfield.

More About P3’s Young Parents Service

P3’s Young Parents Service in Mansfield and Ashfield supports families during the early years; a crucial stage that shapes a child’s development, wellbeing and future. For many young parents, this period can feel overwhelming, with financial pressures, isolation and limited access to resources adding to the challenges they face.

That’s where our service steps in.

Our team works alongside young parents to provide practical support, reassurance and guidance, helping them build confidence, strengthen relationships with their children and feel less alone. Supporting young parents aged 16 to 21, the service offers 15 accommodation spaces, with support workers available on-site 24 hours a day to help young families build stable and positive futures.

We are incredibly grateful to Paul for taking on this amazing challenge and for everyone who supported his fundraising efforts. The funds raised will make a real difference to young families across Mansfield and Ashfield.

Darren Wilson, Service Manager for P3’s Mansfield and Ashfield Young Parents Service, said: “Thanks to Paul’s incredible challenge, we’ve been able to provide extra support to the young families we work with at a time when many are facing significant challenges. The funds raised will help us improve their day-to-day lives, but the impact goes far beyond that. Paul’s commitment has shown these young parents that they’re not alone and that their community cares about them. That sense of being seen, valued and supported can make a real difference.”

This is echoed by Lydia McHugh, P3 Charity’s Community Engagement Coordinator, who added: “In my role I am privileged to see firsthand the impact of fundraising across P3 services and the local communities they serve. Paul’s skydive is a fantastic achievement and an example of many of the weird, wonderful – and sometimes scary! – ways people raise money for our local services.”

The funds raised through Paul’s skydive will go directly towards supporting young families in meaningful and lasting ways. The service are already hoping to organise fun trips for the families, provide new baby packs and deliver learning resources to help young parents’ support their child’s growth.

Thanks to Paul’s challenge and the generosity of everyone who donated, young families across Mansfield and Ashfield will benefit from support when they need it most. Paul raised £728 to help create brighter futures for young parents and their children.

It’s not too late to get involved! Paul’s JustGiving Page will remain open until the end of the year for any last-minute donations.
